FAQs

Q?

Do I need a landscape design?

A.

Ask yourself a question. Am I prepared to entrust my hard earned money to someone without any plan or particular vision on how it is going to be spent?

Even the simplest design will allow your needs to be better determined, the works to be planned effectively and disappointment to be avoided. It is especially important if you intend to invest a larger sum of money in your garden and want it to be used sensibly.
Even if you do not have enough resources to fulfil your garden landscaping dreams, it is still better to have a master plan and break the work down into stages. This will ensure a consistent and satisfactory end result, even if you had to employ different contractors over the duration of the project.

Q?

What is landscape construction?

A.

Garden landscape construction is not just building some individual structures. It is often a complex process of shaping your living space, which requires the coordination of the work of a team of specialists with a wide range of skills, qualifications and experience such as: groundwork, joinery, masonry, bricklaying, paving, tiling, gardening and many more. From administration, through logistics, to installation works, it is a complex project management process which aims to achieve the final effects which were planned at the design stage.

Our mission is not only to impeccably deliver the services that you have ordered from us, but, above all, to attempt to enhance your living space and adjust the area around your home to your needs and lifestyle.

Q?

How much does landscaping cost?

A.

We often get asked this question and as with the cost of a house or a car, it’s just as hard to answer it without knowing the context. Everything depends on the size, design complexity and the materials used. Therefore, the landscaping of a garden may cost anything from £5000 to £25000 and more. That is why it is so important to determine what you want to achieve and how much you are willing to spend at the design stage. This will allow the efficient use of space, the appropriate selection of materials and thoughtful spending. There is nothing worse than unplanned, clueless actions without precisely determined goals. They usually cost twice as much and yield terrible results.

Some sources say that in order to properly design and landscape the whole area around the house you need to spend around 5-10% value of the house

Hard landscaping (paving, walls and joinery) is more expensive than soft landscaping (turfing, planting) so adjusting the ratio of those can make a significant difference.

Our experience shows that it costs between £5000 and £10000 to fully design and landscape a small garden (up to 100m2). The same process in case of a medium suburban garden (100-200m2) would range between £10000 and £15000. The cost goes up when dealing with larger areas or where the complexity of structures is high.

However, the most important is to work out how much you can afford to spend and by using professional advice try to maximize the budget for the best result.

Q?

Does landscaping add value to the house?

A.

There are many indications that a well-designed and landscaped garden may increase the value of a house and help to sell it quicker. A nice garden can add up to 20% to a home's value. Some sources even claim that every £1000 invested in landscaping increases the value of a property by £2000.

Q?

Are you fully insured?

A.

Yes. We have liability and employers insurance in place. Copies of certificates can be presented on request.

Q?

How long have you been in business?

A.

We’ve been running our landscaping business since 2008

Q?

Will you stay on my project until completion?

A.

Yes. We aim to give you a precise timescale indicating when the project will start and when it will be completed. On some rare occasions, depending on the nature of the works, we may need to leave the project for a few days i.e. to give time for concrete to harden before continuing other installations or due to an unexpected delay in the delivery of material. In all cases you will be informed about such situations in advance.

Q?

Can you provide a drawing of your plans?

A.

Yes. For most of the projects we prepare a simple drawing for free to help you to visualize and understand the whole concept. This is also used as guidance for the teams of installers so that they can deliver what has been envisioned. In some cases, with more complicated and technical projects, cad drawings and 3D visualizations might need to be prepared.

Q?

What’s your guarantee?

A.

We give 5 years guarantee on all our hard landscaping workmanship.

Q?

What is your process in installing driveways?

A.

A minimum of 150-250mm of existing soil should be excavated below the final grade. Next the subgrade should be leveled and compacted. Many contractors take shortcuts even though these are the most important factors which keep pavers stable and free from sinking. A ground stabilization fabric should also be used before any base material is brought in

Q?

How many people do you employ? Do you use Subcontractors?

A.

We employ around 8 professional landscapers on a regular basis. We also use subcontractors - mainly for our ground maintenance but also for more specialized jobs like the installation of wrought iron railings, stone masonry or outdoor lighting.

Q?

What type of payments do you accept?

A.

We accept cash, cheques, bank transfers, direct debit, credit cards and PayPal payments.

Q?

Can we sign a contract before starting the project?

A.

Yes. We recommend signing a contract before starting any type of works. Our quotes contain the terms of the business and are presented in such a way that they can be signed and become a contract. There is nothing better than transparency and clear rules which have been agreed on and signed by both sides. In this way, everyone knows what to expect and what to do in the case of any misunderstanding.

Q?

Do you have references available?

A.

We display all testimonials which we have received from our clients on our website. You can also find us on www.referenceline.com (service used by Trusted Trader) and see the recommendations which have been sent directly from the clients. Written references can be provided on request.
